Walesʼs leading contemporary art gallery is inviting proposals for a Christmas window display giving artists/designers/makers the opportunity to dress the double fronted art nouveau style windows at MOSTYN.
 
This is a unique opportunity for visibility for your work in a fantastic space. The gallery reopened on the 22 May 2010 following a £5.1m refurbishment and expansion, which has greatly enhanced and expanded its facilities. The result is an outstanding space offering four main galleries and two smaller exhibition spaces along with excellent educational facilities, Café, and a Craft shop with street frontage and a floor area of just over 100 square meters.
 
The retail space at the Mostyn presents a carefully selected range of hand-made products, from sculptural and domestic ceramics, a diverse range of jewellery in fine silver and gold as well as non-precious materials, colorful glassware and beautifully hand woven scarves – all displayed in a stunning bespoke retail space. Including both local and national makers – we aim to showcase a diverse and individual range of work from both established and newly emerging makers. We also sell limited edition prints and artworks by exhibiting artists as well as a wide selection of greetings cards, art and design related books and magazines, stationery and some MOSTYN merchandise.

Are you a designer/maker with imaginative ideas about displaying your own work?
We invite proposals from you on how you would create a dramatic display incorporating your own work within a large/given space. This opportunity is open for collaboration work with other artists and designers. The display must include saleable items of own works to be agreed with the Retail and Visitor Experience Manager.
 
Or do you have visual merchandising ideas?
Are you an individual with the creative vision to produce a striking display that incorporates merchandise from the retail space? We invite you to propose and create a display that is visually stunning. This opportunity involves liaison with the Retail and Visitor Experience Manager regarding the selection of stock items to be displayed.
 
Technical Details
 
The larger window is 370cm high, 290cm width and 170cm depth and has a curved front.
The smaller window is 370cm high, 190 width and 140cm depth (with consideration needed for access to door, and a pillar in the middle of the space) also with a curved front.
 
Both windows have electrical sockets so lighting can be incorporated into the work. 

The maximum use of the space is encouraged- we want a high impact window. We would also be open to proposals in which other interior areas of the retail space could be incorporated, such as the wall space above display units and the ceiling.

There will be some technical support available on installation – to be agreed beforehand with the Retail and Visitor Experience Manager.

Things to Consider
We encourage the creative use of materials – in any shape or form.
Consideration must be made to the use of light within the Window which will make an impact in winter light conditions.
Security – although items should be easily accessible to shop staff when purchases occur, the security and safety of saleable items should be considered when designing the window.
If the window incorporates saleable items handmade by the successful candidate, wholesale prices must be agreed with the Retail and Visitor Experience Manager before installation.

Installation: The window commission will be launched mid-November and we envisage 2 days installation on dates to be agreed with the Retail and Visitor Experience Manager.
 
Takedown: 6 January 2013 Assistance from the shop staff will be provided for this (details to be arranged).
 
Fee
We are offering an all-inclusive fee of £1,000.  This includes all materials and making costs, travel and expenses. We will however cover the travel expenses for the interview. You must be able to install the window yourself or with assistance costed from within your budget. Mostyn will provide two days of assistance with installation. (These are flexible - to be arranged with the Retail and Visitor Experience Manager). The takedown costs must also be costed into the fee.

LIGHT ASSEMBLY MIAMI: THE WORLD'S FIRST ARCHITECTURAL PROJECTION, VIDEO ART AND FILM FESTIVAL NOW ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS FOR SCREENING AT MOVIE THEATERS AND PROJECTED ONTO BUILDINGS CITYWIDE DURING ART BASEL MIAMI 2012

Light Assembly is both a film festival like no other, and a mass-scale showcase of video art and architecture. In the last decade, visual artists such as Miranda July, Steve McQueen and Julian Schnabel have legitimized the crossover from visual art to filmmaking. Light Assembly is the first-ever film festival dedicated to assisting artists in that crossover between art and film. Light Assembly is also a pilot video art and architecture exposition program unique in the world. Conceived as a beta of Time Zones Chicago, planned for premier in late Summer of 2013, the goal of Light Assembly is to combine large-scale video art projection with the citywide canvas of Miami Beach and mainland Miami’s modern architectural marvels and historic landmarks. The combination of architecture and video art proposed by Light Assembly will allow a hybrid art form to emerge, one that reinterprets and reimagines the public space of the cities where we live and work. Over the last decades, the equipment needed to make and project video has become increasingly affordable, and transformed how installation work is thought about and made. Yet, the parallel evolution of these distinct art forms has not yet realized its full potential; we believe it is finally time to explore the full possibilities of these art forms, and on a whole new scale.

Light Assembly has gathered an influential industry list of 2012 jury members that bridge the visual art and film worlds. Have your work reviewed by the programming director at Sundance and curator at the Walker Art Center alike. All entries through our Withoutabox online submission system are automatically entered into the Internet Movie Database.

ARCHITECTURAL PROJECTION CATEGORY (single category):

Artist Architectural Projections
The Architectural Projections (AP) category is a juried submission for artists whose works will be presented on the facade or some part of a Miami Beach or Miami area building. Locations for artists will be smaller spaces, including storefronts, hotel lobbies and more, though larger main locations will also be made available at a higher optional rate. Artists will be given the option to request projection locations in the order their applications are received.

CINEMA SCREENING CATEGORIES (includes the following eight categories):

Feature-Length Film and Video Works (CS)
The Feature-length film and video works (CS) category is a juried submission for artists whose works will be screened at Miami-area movie theaters. Feature-length films must be 50 minutes or longer in duration.

Short Film and Video Works
The Short Film and Video Works category is a juried submission for artists and filmmakers whose works will be screened at Miami-area movie theaters. Shorts must be 50 minutes or shorter in duration.

Art Documentary
The Art Documentary category is for documentary film and videos on art-related subjects. Biopics are also welcome for this category, as are subjects that skirt the line between the imagination and reality. Winning works will be screened at Miami-area movie theaters.

Art TV
The Art TV category is for film and videos works that utilize the format of the television program. Sitcoms, action series, talk show formats; if it's TV, it's good for the Art TV category. Youtube format shows are also welcome for submission, as are public access programs. Winners will be screened on a loop in a special LA section at Verge Art Fair Miami at The Greenview Hotel, in rooms converted into intimate screening areas.

Music + Video
The Music + Video category is for film and videos works that combine music and imagery. Duration of submissions in this category should be five minutes or less. Winners will be screened on a loop in a special LA section at Verge Art Fair Miami at The Greenview Hotel, in rooms converted into intimate screening areas.

Tiny Lenses
Tiny Lenses category is a juried submission for works made exclusively on cell phone cameras. Preferred duration of all entries is 10 minutes or shorter. Winners will be screened on a loop in a special LA section at Verge Art Fair Miami at The Greenview Hotel, in rooms converted into intimate screening areas.

Art Porn
The Art Porn category is for both the hard core and soft core; visual culture porn, curator porn; fleshy or over-the-top intellectually specialized. Whatever your submission, it must conform to the definition of pornography as graphic depiction. Winners will be screened on a loop in a special LA section at Verge Art Fair Miami at The Greenview Hotel, in rooms converted into intimate screening areas.

Livecast
The Livecast category is for film and videos works that are broadcast live over the internet. New technologies such as Skype, Bambuser and others have created a niche in the film and video worlds where live broadcast can be done by anyone. Given the nature of this category, entrants are asked to submit a written proposal and speculative video sample of what they intend the final livecast to look like. Our only steadfast criteria for this category is that accepted proposals be broadcast live during the dates of the event. Winners will be embedded in special screening pages on the Verge Art Fair Miami / Light Assembly website.

Everything that has ever happened, ever, has led to this moment.

A small slice of the leading edge of the wave of time is documented, encapsulated, and frozen in the form of human history. They say that history is written by the winners. Perhaps it is more true to say that it is written by those who survive, and only for the brief time in which they can still talk about it. That, we suppose, would be the collective us.

History is generally divided into two philosophies, speculative and critical. Regardless of which, key words apply, and include terms such as progress, truth, fact, civilization, cycles, patterns, society, past, direction, humanity, linear, evolution, and so on. Inevitably, history is a view of humanity across time.

How do artists reflect upon, and even participate in history? Surely some do it consciously, as a subject of focus. Others may have it in mind, without the intention of feeding into or addressing it at all. Whatever the case may be, Manifest offers Lost Horizon as an invitation to artists to submit works of any type of visual art for consideration. Works may be of any media, style, or genre, and may address history from a literal or symbolic standpoint.

Manifest is eager to present and document a broadly compelling exhibition reflecting on history as a concept, and human history as it has, or may yet, occur.

Eligibility: LOST HORIZON is open to everyone. Professionals as well as students are encouraged to enter. The only limitation is that entries must represent original works of art.

Media: Open to any and all traditional and non-traditional genre and media, including painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, photography, mixed media, video, etc. The only limiting factor is that works must in some way involve, represent, or explore history in some way (obvious or subtle).
 
A full-color catalog will be produced.

A four-week autumn workshop program, designed to broaden participants’ engagement with contemporary photography by encouraging understanding, critical thinking, and training the eye. The content of each week will vary in theme according to each photographer/artist’s particular approach, ideas and practice. Starting from the foundations of photography, you will go through a variety of specialised courses and workshops in different photographic fields. The masterclass will focus on both practical and conceptual skills, with hands-on experience, feedback and critical appraisal from internationally renowned photographers. Taking place in the vibrant, multicultural and central location of Berlin’s Bergmannkiez in Kreuzberg, accommodation & studio space will be provided in FELLINI gallery’s artist community flats. The workshop will culminate in a group exhibition where the best work will be exhibited at the FELLINI gallery.

THE ALBERT is a new pop-up venue for arts and community well-being that offers space for experimentation and play. This temporary project will be opened to the public between September 2012 - June 2013 and provide a new exciting programme of events, exhibitions, activities and performances that explore the theme of health and well-being.  

THE ALBERT aims to bring together a range of playful projects that people can take part in - projects that engage physically and creatively through movement, play, music and song, taste, touch, dance and socialising.

For a limited period, choreographers, musicians, artists, cooks, architects, filmmakers and the unexpected are invited to take up residency at THE ALBERT and facilitate a programme that engages the local neighbourhood and the general public into trying out something new: sing in a choir, perform as a dancer, grow vegetables, learn to cook, paint, build something or get physical!  

THE ALBERT offers are range of spaces including studios, a sports hall, an outside ballcourt and greenery, exhibition space and room for performances. Artists and creative individuals or groups are asked to express their interest in residencies that can range from 1week to 10month.  

Studio spaces at THE ALBERT are offered rent free but a contribution to the running costs (approx. £2 per m2 per month) will apply. In return all ALBERT residents will contribute to monthly public programmes and involve the local neighbourhood of South Kilburn and Queens Park into their artistic practice through engaging, experiential projects, events or workshops.

The George Washington University Resident Artist/Scholar Program

Columbian College of Arts and Sciences at The George Washington University (GW) offers an Arts Fellowship available to support a mid-career artist and/or scholar. Fields may include, but are not limited to the following: visual arts, performance art, musical composition or performance, filmmaking, creative writing, theatre, dance, and scholars in the arts. This new fellowship has been established to provide a platform for a resident artist/scholar to work together with a small group of GW faculty (Incubator Studio Fellows) and students, as well as other members of the Washington, DC arts community. The Fellow will not be assigned to teach any courses; instead, he/she will be expected to produce new work and/or scholarship, present at least one public lecture, regularly interact with graduate and undergraduate students, and fully participate in activities with GW faculty in the Incubator Studio Fellowship Program.

The concept for the inaugural Resident Artist/Scholar Program and Incubator Studio Fellowship Program (2013 Spring/Summer) will be determined through the submission process, which will consist of proposals from individual artists and/or scholars and GW faculty. A primary goal is to foster an interdisciplinary approach to creative research and scholarship over an intensive six-month period, a physical and intellectual space for the development of meaningful artistic and scholarly linkages across the arts and other disciplines, both on and off campus. The final result of the collaboration between the Resident Artist/Scholar Fellow and the Incubator Studio Fellows may result in a single project in which all fellows contribute equally or independent projects that have been developed through an ongoing intellectual exchange.

The Resident Artist/Scholar Fellow will be provided with a stipend ($30,000.00), a modest studio/office on the Foggy Bottom Campus, as well as a creative project/research fund (up to $5,000.00) to cover expenses directly related to the realization of the work done while in residence. The Fellow is expected to be in residence in Washington, DC, at GW during the term of the fellowship (January 14 – June 30, 2013).

The Bradford Fellowship in Photography, UK

In partnership with University of Bradford and Bradford College, we are seeking to appoint a photographer, or artist working with photography as the 2012-13 Bradford Fellow in Photography.

We are looking for a mid-career photographer with experience of teaching, publishing and producing work for exhibition. The successful candidate would deliver an agreed number of lectures to the students at both Bradford College and University of Bradford. They would also work with Museum staff to produce a gallery exhibition and associated events around the new or ongoing work to show in late autumn 2013. The exhibition will be part of the Ways of Looking photography festival in Bradford.

Eligibility
Applicants should be photographers, or artists working with photography, established in their field with a history of exhibitions, publications, commercial and/or significant editorial work.
Applicants should have a track record of teaching at FE/HE levels and be fully committed to delivering the teaching aspect of the Fellowship in Bradford.
We welcome collaborative applications and proposed artworks created by individuals or groups of artists. Please note if a collaborative proposal is selected the fee for the project be equally divided between the artists taking part.
Applicants are required to be UK residents.

Budget
The Fellow will receive an award of £10,000 excluding travel and accommodation for their various commitments to the programme.
An additional Fellowship budget will cover exhibition production and delivery costs within agreed limits.
The National Media Museum will provide curatorial and technical assistance with all aspects of the Fellowship programme.

The 9th Kaunas Biennial UNITEXT - 13 09 2013 – 31 12 2013, Lithuania

The 9th Kaunas Biennial UNITEXT will create conditions for immediate collisions of an artwork and a spectator, allowing the experience of art as a universal text. Curators of the exhibition together with artists will pursue a concept that is new and unfamiliar in a cultural context and will consolidate it by presenting practical examples. We will go into the question of a unitext, which is the latest link in work -> text -> intertext -> hypertext -> unitext semiotic chain of a philosophic / art criticism / artistic field.

According to the consistency of this chain the UNITEXT exhibition claims a privilege to present novel ideas about the art at the level of structural and notional revelation. The suggestion is to perceive unitext in this chain as a universal artistic language, which unifies different experiences and concepts. The exhibition will provide a unique voice for each artwork instead of handling this task to explanatory texts. We believe artworks themselves are suggestive, influential and complete enough. We invite artists to present works experiences of which are based on a direct confrontation with an object / space / semantic field.

We invite to present unitexts, which are seen through intuition, materiality, spontaneity, sensuality, feeling, here and now experiences.

Residence fellowships - Akademie Schloss Solitude, Stuttgart

The Akademie Schloss Solitude fellowship is a residence fellowship. It is expected that the fellows spend at least two-thirds of their residency at Akademie Schloss Solitude.

The fellowship includes the following:

A combined apartment / studio, furnished with electricity, water and heat free of charge.

A stipend amounting to Euro 1,100 monthly (plus one-time expenses incurred by the fellowship holder travelling to and from Stuttgart from his or her primary place of residence).The Akademie may also offer additional financial supplements, depending on its respective budget situation.

A supplement for so-called double housekeeping (subsidy for apartment or studio costs); freight cost subsidy for the transport of materials, tools and instruments to and from Stuttgart; a project promotion subsidy and a one-time materials subsidy; in the case of non-German guests (from non EU-countries), assumption of part of their health insurance expenses.

The use of the workshops owned by Akademie Schloss Solitude under the supervision of the technical director, are free of charge for fellowship holders.

In light of the historical character and architectural substance of the building, the combined apartment/studios are generally only suitable for one person. In special cases the Akademie will consider allocating two studios for families.

All artists invited to stay at Akademie Schloss Solitude are obliged to establish residence in Stuttgart for the duration of the grant (compulsory registration).

You are aged up to 35 years, or you have completed a university or college degree within the last five years.
You have completed your academic studies.
Please note that applications from those still enrolled in degree programs during the application round will not be considered. PhD students may submit applications.
A limited number of fellowships are awarded regardless of the applicants' age. Decisions relating to the above will be made by the responsible juror.
Would you like to apply as part of an artist group?
In this case, each group member must fill in an application form on their own behalf. However, the various applications must be sent in a single mailing with the joint work samples.
Knowledge of German, English or French is a prerequisite for application.
If you have applied for a fellowship from the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg (Baden-Württemberg Art Foundation), whose application procedure runs at the same time, you may not apply for an Akademie Schloss Solitude fellowship.
Former fellows of the Akademie Schloss Solitude cannot apply again.
The Solitude fellowship is a residency fellowship. At least two thirds of the fellowship period must be spent at the Akademie.
All fellows must have their permanent residence in Stuttgart for the fellowship's duration (obligation to register residence).
Applicants whose applications are refused during a specific selection procedure may send in applications during two other rounds (maximum).

Art Dubai, Delfina Foundation, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, and Tashkeel run Artists-in-Residence (A.i.R) Dubai, an annual residency programme which gives artists and curators the opportunity to be based in Dubai in the lead-up to and during Art Dubai and Art Week each March.

In 2013, the residencies will run from January 7 to March 31, coinciding with the 7th edition of Art Dubai. The programme hosts three Emirati artists, three artists from the Middle East and Asia, and an international curator-in-residence, all of whom will live and work in historic Al Bastakiya, in the heart of Dubai’s trading district alongside the Creek.

A.i.R. Dubai provides artists with the opportunity to make new work and develop their practice; the selected artists all create work for Open Studios exhibitions in Bastakiya alongside March’s SIKKA Art Fair - http://www.sikka.ae/ , while the international artists are also commissioned to create site-specific works for Art Dubai Projects - http://artdubai.ae/commissions , the critically-acclaimed, non-commercial programme which forms part of the fair’s programming.

We have opened calls for applications from Emirati artists and international curators to apply for the residency positions, while the international artists-in-residence will be identified through a nomination and jury process, with the four residency partners and our 2013 Guest Juror, Cairo-based curator Sarah Rifky.
