periscope is an event-led off-space for young (visual) artists, which exists and operates since 2006 in the City of Salzburg. (Austria) Ever since then periscope continuously helps realising, presenting and promoting projects of young contemporary artists. It is an ambiton to work as a vital inclusive space.

One focus of periscope lies on on the changeability of its project:space – using the project:space as an instrument for exploring and presenting unique artistic ideas. 2013 Artist-in Residence Workspace Grant, The Center for Book Arts, NYC

FOR NEW YORK EMERGING ARTISTS

The Center for Book Arts is pleased to continue the Artist-in-Residence Workspace Grant for New York Emerging Artists program in 2013. Up to five New York-based emerging artists will be offered space, time and support to explore the production of artist’s books and related work for a full year. The purpose of this program is to promote experimentation in book arts, thus artists from all disciplinary backgrounds are
encouraged to apply. The Center especially encourages applications from artists of culturally diverse backgrounds.

The award includes a $750-$1,500 cash stipend (depending on funding) plus a materials budget between $500 to $1,000 (depending on funding), 24 hour access to the Center’s printing and binding facilities for a full year, plus an individual studio space for 3 months.

Artists also receive approximately $3,000-$5,000 tuition waiver for courses throughout the year, planned in conjunction with the staff.

The Center for Book Arts invites applications for our Letterpress Publishing Seminar for Emerging Writers. The next section of this seminar is scheduled for the Fall of 2012. The seminar is tuition free for participants and includes the cost of materials. Those selected must attend the entire five-day workshop. Participants will hear lectures from various professionals in the field – printers, fine press publishers, book artists, and dealers, to get a practical overview of letterpress printing and small press publishing. They will learn the basics of letterpress printing, both traditional typesetting and options with new technology, by collaboratively printing a small edition of broadsides or other projects. This workshop is most suitable for those with little to no previous letterpress experience.

Artists Unlimited e.V. Residency, Germany

Artists Unlimited is an artists association and art house that combines living and working under one roof since 1985. The project runs a gallery and a guest studio and has until now financed three-month-grants for 70 guest artists from all over the world. They live in the Artists Unlimited house – a former paper factory building – and exhibit their creations in the projects gallery. Such art funding by artists for artists is rare and has here produced a continuous cultural dialog between regional and international artists. Artists Unlimited is financed by its members and all common activities are done voluntarily.

One of the founding ideas of Artists Unlimited was to integrate a guest studio into the house. A space in which an international artist could live and work for 3 months. We have had over 70 guests from around the world staying in the house. The rooms for the guest artists are made up of a studio (40 m2) and an appartment (32 m2) with kitchen, washing machine and telephone. The house pays a grant of 550 Euro a month. We do not pay for travelling expenses. One of the conditions of the residency is that every guest artist makes an exhibition in the Artists Unlimited gallery.

For the guest artist scholarships 2013, we will accept applications between the 1st of September and the 1st of October of 2012.

The Friends of Queens Hall Gallery (FQHG) are looking for artist films to show at forthcoming evening screenings in Oriel Q in 2013, starting in January.
 
FQHG will accept all manner of genres, from emerging & international artists alike. The deadline is 22 December 2012. There is no fee to take part, however, the number of submissions is limited to three.

Canon Foundation in Europe Research Fellowships

15 Fellowships available for European and Japanese researchers

Annually, the Canon Foundation in Europe grants up to 15 Fellowships to highly qualified European and Japanese researchers. European nationals should have permanent citizenship in the country.

The candidates hold a doctorate or at least a Master’s degree. They are eligible during the ten-year period following the successful completion of their PhD or MA degree. Extensions to the ten-year rule are possible in principle in case of exceptional circumstances which should be explained in the application and supporting documents are required. The European Fellowship holders pursue a period of research in Japan whereas the Japanese Fellows do their research at host institutions in Europe. The Fellowships are awarded for periods of minimum three months and maximum one year. The Fellowships are awarded regardless of discipline and existing employment positions.

The financial support for Research Fellows ranges from 22,500 Euro to 27,500 Euro per year and pro-rata for different periods.

Application procedure for Fellowships
The annual deadline for applications is September 15. Consideration of the applications takes several months. The Selection Committee's final decisions are convened to the applicants before end December of that year. Therefore, the earliest possible date to begin the Fellowship is January 1 of the following year.

Applications should be submitted in full (including the acceptance by the proposed host institute and the research plan) to the Secretariat of the Canon Foundation in Europe well in advance of the deadline.

It is important to note that no correspondence is entered into by the Foundation in regard to decisions taken on any individual application and in view of the large number of applicants, no negative inference should be drawn from the failure of a candidate to secure a Fellowship.

 

Grant: Visual Arts - European Association for Jewish Culture

The mission of the European Association for Jewish Culture is to enhance Jewish life by fostering and supporting artistic creativity and achievement, assisting scholarly research, and encouraging access to Jewish culture across Europe.

This grant programme is designed to provide part-funding for new exhibitions of contemporary art, which address the Jewish experience by awarding grants to
a. Professional artists to produce new work for exhibition in a recognized cultural venue.
b. Freelance curators for researching and organizing an exhibition of contemporary art.
The application should be submitted by professional artists or curators in association with an exhibition venue based in one of the European countries. The applicants must submit a letter from the exhibition venue endorsing the plans for the exhibition project.

Applicants must have specialized training in the arts; at least 2 years' arts practice and must have exhibited their work at least once previously. Students are not eligible.

Grants up to 5,000 Euros will be awarded to successful candidates in two instalments: individual artist or curator. The grant can cover a number of aspects of the project.

A call for unrealized projects - daadgalerie, Berlin

Unlike unrealized architectural projects, which are frequently exhibited and circulated, unrealized artworks tend to remain unnoticed or little known. But perhaps there is another form of artistic agency in the partial expression, the incomplete idea, the projection of a mere intention? Agency of Unrealized Projects (AUP) seeks to document and display these works, in this way charting the terrain of a contingent future.

Though the state of being unrealized implies the potential for realization, not all projects are intended to be carried out. In other instances, artists deliberately leave works incomplete, to record interesting “failures” or experiments. Other planned projects involve consciously utopian, non-utilitarian, and conceptual spaces that were not made available for realization. Whether censored, forgotten, postponed, impossible, or rejected, unrealized projects form a unique testament to the speculative power of non-action.

AUP follows “Unbuilt Roads: 107 Unrealized Projects” collated by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Guy Tortosa following several years of international research conducted in the late 1990s (and published in form of a book in 1997, Gerd Hatje, Ostfildern-Ruit, Germany), with contributions by 107 artists, from Vito Acconci to Rosemarie Trockel. Under the name of AUP these artist projects were first presented as a digital public archive by e-flux in 2009 followed by an open call for unrealized projects published by e-flux in 2011 and an AUP exhibition in Basel in 2011.

This new open call for unrealized projects is launched on the occasion of a Berlin edition of AUP in collaboration with the Berliner Künstlerprogramm/ DAAD. The AUP will take up temporary residence at the daadgalerie in Berlin from September 9th to October 20th 2012 to present newly submitted projects as well as the existing inventory of the AUP archive. The daadgalerie installation of AUP will be accompanied by a public program of lectures and presentations with numerous guests considering artistic and philosophical perspectives of the “unrealized” or the “unrealizable.”

You are invited to contribute your own unrealized projects to AUP’s growing archive. Contributions can include text (DOC) and image files (two JPEGs or PDFs up to 2MB each), and can be submitted online at http://www.e-flux.com/aup.
