Womrath Park Gateway Sculpture
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: November 1, 2013
The Philadelphia City Planning Commission (PCPC) invites all professional artists living within driving distance of Philadelphia to apply for a public art commission. Artists are asked to submit qualifications to design permanent artwork for historic Womrath Park, located in the Frankford section of Philadelphia.
Womrath Park is envisioned as a gateway to Frankford. It is a triangle of green located in the southwest corner of Frankford, adjacent to the Market Frankford El and bordered by Kensington and Frankford Avenues. With the recent addition of a rain garden and three new murals created by Philadelphia's Mural Arts program along Frankford Avenue, the site is ideally situated to become a destination for residents and a location for public and private gatherings. The selected artwork will serve as a central focus of the park and will help create a unique identity for the Frankford community. Thematic and visual connections to Frankford's history, culture, people, and heritage will be encouraged. Interactive elements that engage both adults and children are desirable.
Individual artists or creative teams with experience in public art projects are eligible to apply. Submission requirements include a written statement, examples of past work, and a CV. All applications must be submitted through the online CaFE application system. Up to five finalists will each receive a stipend of $1,000 for concept proposals.
