Forthcoming Events - HA!, Haringey Arts, London
First - I'm pleased to announce that Haringey Council have given us the use of a Grade II listed Victorian pumphouse and the adjoining Markfield Park by the River Lee - minutes away from Seven Sisters station - to stage a one day creative industries showcase event as part of Lee Valley Festival. On 22nd June HA! will be staging an event which will include an exhibition, film area, performance arts, world music, arts activities, workshops, and info about environmental/ global issues: A festival of Haringey Arts! WE WANT TO REPRESENT YOU HERE! If you or anyone you know would like to contribute please send me links, myspace, small images, biogs, ideas etc. There's already an incredible array of very talented artists involved. Whether you can show one small canvas, do a little gig, or stage a full theatrical production we want to hear from you a.s.a.p.
Due to the late notice there is not a big budget for this event but Haringey have promised to fund a bigger festival next year if we pull off something special this year. We can pay expenses. Please let me know soon if you'd like to exhibit/ perform. There will be a loose victorian theme, and people are encouraged to dress appropriately. Please tell your friends to come and enjoy a picnic by the river and participate in the event :)
Second: - due to HA!s success there is another 10000£ up for grabs for Creative Industry projects in Haringey - to be dished out in two £5000 grants for easily achievable, sustainable arts based projects. The application process is very easy. Please let people know to come to HA! headquarters - the address of which is in the signature of this email - on Thursday June 5th at 6pm to find out more. Drinks provided!
Third: HA! know about some new units going cheap in a large industrial estate in Haringey very conveniently located. The spaces are perfect for studios, rehearsal space, etc. In part thanks to the obvious success of other clusters of industrial spaces colonised by artists in Haringey, live/work is allowed and even encouraged on brown-field sites by the Haringey Council now! Of course you don't have to live in but it does make it a lot cheaper. Please contact me if you or someone you know are interested in setting up or letting studio/ rehearsal space cheap and being part of an artistic community engaged in the regeneration of the local area with council backing...
Finally if you're really keen and want to get more involved with the HA! project please feel free to stick around on June 5th after the meeting (from 9pm) - more info and dialogue about whats going on will happen late into the evening so come and find out about whats going on with the creative industries in Haringey and meet your fellow artists. Even if you don't live or work here you are welcome to come along and be part of the project. Its all very exciting!
Lets claim 2008 for the artists!
Create! or be created.
looking forward to hearing from you
