The Printmaking Department has a long and distinguished history, being one of the oldest sections of the College, yet remaining one of its most vital and successful parts. Printmaking attracts a strong application and provides a fruitful creative experience for students who go on into careers as artists, teachers and designers of all kinds.
Essential to the education received is the development of technical collaborative skills that are transferable assets as well as strong conceptual and theoretical abilities. Our students are recruited from a wide base of art and design undergraduate courses. The Department also acts as a service area to the rest of the Royal College and our technical staff are involved in a variety of problem-solving roles to realise the ambitions of its students and staff.
The Printmaking Department also has an ambitious fine art publishing programme, which involves the technical staff in production. The department also works with students across the college providing for example stencils for the ceramic and glass and textiles students who do not have access to oil based inks. We run evening classes for students throughout the college and sometimes for external groups.
