Winter/Spring 2010 Internship Opportunities, White Flag Projects, St. Louis, MO
White Flag Projects, a leading alternative art gallery specializing in national and international artists, has internship opportunities beginning in January 2009 available to applicants pursuing or having recently received undergraduate and graduate degrees in the fine arts, art history, and related fields.
White Flag Projects interns are deeply involved in every aspect of a major alternative art gallery's inner workings, and are an integral part of the team that assists in the production, installation, and documentation of exhibits and important communication with visitors. Interns directly assist visiting artists and curators, and participate in regular gallery activities including research, gallery maintenance, promotions and clerical tasks.
Applicants should have solid foundations in 20th and 21st century art practices. Successful applicants will also possess strong social skills as well as competent writing and computer skills. Internships at White Flag Projects are unpaid. White Flag Projects can work closely with student's advisors to provide academic credit for their work. Interns are required to work 5 hours per day 2 days per week in addition to occasional evenings on which special events are scheduled. A White Flag Projects internship is a vibrant and unorthodox experience that is not exclusively desk-bound, as our programming moves swiftly from exhibition preparation and openings to lectures, concerts and film series.
Applicants should email a letter of inquiry and resume to Assistant Director Jessica Baran at: [email protected]. Please include the words "Internship Application" in the subject line. Interviews will be scheduled for all qualified applicants.
Located in a spectacularly renovated industrial building, White Flag has introduced over 100 compelling new artists to local gallery goers, organized exhibitions from New York, Kansas City, London and Los Angeles, hosted two international artists-in-residence, and has been discussed in important art publications including Artforum, Modern Painters, Art in America, Art Papers, and on the websites of The New York Times, Flash Art and ArtNet Magazine. White Flag Projects has also organized exhibitions in cooperation with The Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, and Kansas City's Urban Culture Project.
