The Aomori Contemporary Art Centre (ACAC) is surrounded by the rich woods. It opened in December 2001 aiming at the place of new creation where nature and art live together. At this institution, twice a year -- spring and autumn, we have an 'Artist-in-Residence' (AIR) program system that invites artists to reside in Aomori, and produce works. We aim at offering the opportunity of various appreciation of art, the exchange activities with artists and citizen, and making the original art culture of Aomori-City.

In the Autumn AIR program, we invite artists who play active part in the contemporary art field from all applicants. We support the residence work and holding the exhibition. At the same time, we set up the workshop and lecture by artists for audience to play a part of help to understand art deeply and promote international exchange through art.

Invitation artists can receive the following support. Accommodation and studio (shared space) is provided artists for creative activities. The creative activities and mutual exchange will be a fruitful and productive experience for artist.

The Graue Award, San Francisco Bay Area

CALL FOR ARTISTS: SoEx OFFSITE 2010: The Graue Award

Southern Exposure (soex.org) is pleased to announce a $50,000 gift from the Graue Family Foundation to support its public art initiative SoEx Off-Site and the creation of a new public art award, The Graue Award. This new award will allow Southern Exposure to offer an annual $15,000 prize to an emerging artist to develop and create a new public art project in the San Francisco Bay Area.

With the support of The Graue Family Foundation, Southern Exposure will commission two major public projects in the Bay Area in 2011 and 2012 through two annual open calls for proposals. In each round of this program, SoEx will select one project for realization and offer a $15,000 award. The winning projects will be selected by a jury of artists who sit on Southern Exposure’s Curatorial Committee.

SoEx Off-Site, founded in 2005, seeks to commission and present new work by emerging artists that intervenes and interacts in the social and political spheres beyond the space of gallery. SoEx supports and encourages these practices as few venues support emerging artists working in the public realm. The artists selected through the program will make a proposal and develop and present their work in the San Francisco Bay Area. Previous experience working in public spaces is not essential for selection in this program.

This new phase of SoEx Off-Site re-affirms Southern Exposure’s commitment to supporting artists working in the public realm. Southern Exposure has commissioned and presented public projects with a wide range of artists including Neighborhood Public Radio, Lee Walton, Glowlab, Kate Pocrass/Mundane Journeys, The San Francisco Bureau of Urban Secrets, Red76, Instant Coffee, Packard Jennings, Natalie Jeremijenko, Futurefarmers, Rebar, Preemptive Media, Bruce Tomb, Christian Nold, and more.

Dazed & Confused Emerging Artists Award, UK

The Converse/Dazed 2010 Emerging Artists Award

FIRST PRIZE £ 6,000

The Converse/Dazed 2010 Emerging Artists Award is open to all artists under the age of 35 who are not represented by a gallery in the UK, and are British or UK-based.

Entrants must not be students at university or art school. Artists are invited to submit their most innovative and interesting work for the judges’ consideration. There are no limitations on discipline. Video, sculpture, performance and sound entries are all welcome. There will be five shortlisted artists with one overall winner. These will selected on the basis of what the judges believe to be the best, most innovative, interesting, well produced and strongest work.

The winner will receive a cash prize of £6,000 and each of the shortlisted artists £1,000.

Both the shortlisted artists and the winner will both their entry and their portfolio of work exhibited at the renowned Stephen Friedman Gallery in London in July and August, 2010.

In order to enter you must submit a maximum of five images of your artwork, a CV and a one-page statement explaining the inspiration behind your entry. If submitting video or sound pieces, excerpts must be no longer than three minutes in length. Entrants will have their work judged by an expert panel of art-world insiders and the shortlisted and winning artists will be selected on what the judges believe to be the best, most innovative, interesting, well produced and strongest work.

WHO WE ARE:
 
The Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild is a not-for-profit arts organization with a primary focus on nurturing artists in our 1903 Byrdcliffe Art Colony, and providing related public programs in the town of Woodstock, one hundred miles north of New York City. Our programs include Artists in Residence, which provides summer and year round residencies, fellowships and mentoring for forty artists and writers, a year round concert and exhibition series, and classes in ceramics and related crafts. Our facilities include 30 historic buildings on 300 wooded acres; and a concert/exhibition space, retail shop and offices in the town of Woodstock.  Our staff includes a full time executive director, full time property manager, part-time Director of the Artists in Residence program, shop manager, office administrative group, and volunteers. The board of directors is actively involved in committees that oversee development, long range planning, finance and properties. Program committees for exhibitions and concerts include board members and resident Woodstock artists and musicians.  We have an endowment of approximately $700,000 and an annual budget of $450,000.

We have refocused our mission and are looking forward to working with the new Executive Director to redefine our programs to closely align with our core purposes.  The board is fully engaged in supporting our goals and expanding our constituency, and we look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm.
 

JOB DESCRIPTION:
 
The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the Guild’s consistent achievement of its mission by implementing the Board’s goals and strategies.
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise the office, its personnel and functions, including maintaining official records and documents and ensuring compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Responsible for recruitment of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers.
 
Provide leadership in developing program, organizational, and financial plans with the Board of Directors and carry out plans and policies authorized by the Board. Provide direction to committees of the Board and volunteer groups. Ensure a staff presence, preferably the ED, at all Guild events. See that the Board is kept fully informed on the condition of the Guild and all important factors influencing it.
 
Be responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices. Work with the Finance Committee and the Board in preparing an annual budget which implements Board policies; ensure that expenditures are consistent with the approved budget; provide monthly financial reports to the Board.
 
Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the Guild to carry out its work by creating and implementing a diversified and sustainable funding program to cultivate institutional, corporate, and individual donors.
 
Publicize the activities of the Guild, its programs and goals and maintain good relations with community leaders, businesses and artistic groups in the Hudson Valley. Represent the interests of the Guild at all times.
 

QUALIFICATIONS:
 
• Minimum five years experience in not for profit management, including fundraising.
 • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
 • Experience with data base management, budgeting, financial management and financial forecasting tools.
 • Excellent interpersonal skills, proven ability to direct and manage a small staff, and work with an active board of directors.
 • Detail oriented.
 • Graduate degree in arts administration a plus.

VISUAL ARTS CREATIVE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME 2010 - CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

Cove Park will award six six-week residencies for UK-based visual artists, makers, designers, critical writers and curators.

Supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, each resident will be provided with accommodation, a studio and receives a fee of £2,400 and a materials/research allowance of £1,000.

Cove Park is an international residency centre based on the west coast of Scotland, for artists in all art-forms cultures and career stages, located on an outstanding fifty-acre site just one hour from Glasgow.
The residencies enable research and the development of new work and are complemented by a programme of talks and events.

GOING POSTAL 2010, London

Post-Card Auction hosted at ICA - London and presented by 2009 MA Fine Art at Chelsea College of Art and Design.  
Deadline: June 7th, 2010

On 16th June we are having an auction of postcards and postcard-sized artworks created by international artists and designers. This event will be called 'Going Postal' and any monies raised by this auction will go towards funding our final MA show in September 2010.  We would be delighted if you would be willing to contribute a piece to this auction. If so either work on the postcard we will send you on request or produce another piece of an approximately commensurate size (A6) in any materials you want. Please return all work for the attention of Brian Chalkley to the address below before June 7th.  

The auction will be held at the ICA, Central London and looks set to be an interesting night with a range of international artists, collectors, gallerists in attendance and compered by artist and head of MA Fine Art at Chelsea, Brian Dawn Chalkley

All Art Initiatives Call for Entries, Amsterdam

The Métamatic Research Initiative

The Métamatic Research Initiative is launching a call for entries to commission six individual art works in line with its mission. The initiative welcomes proposals from visual artists working in all disciplines.

The Métamatic Research Initiative's mission is to stimulate research into ideas stemming from the work and philosophy of the French-Swiss artist Jean Tinguely (1925-1991). Specifically, the research initiative focuses on Tinguely's exploration of the relationship between the artist, the art work and the viewer as expressed in his Métamatic sculptures. The call for entries is part of a broader effort of the initiative, in which funding will be given to both academic and artistic research activities, ranging from educational projects for young people to the commissioning of individual art works.

The Métamatic Research Initiative
The Swiss born artist Jean Tinguely lived most of his artistic life in Paris, where he was one of the initiators of the Nouveau Réalisme movement in 1960. Tinguely was amongst the leading artists incorporating movement and other time-based elements in his work. By the late 1950s Tinguely embarked on a series of generative apparatus he called Métamatics, based on the idea of machines producing art works. With this series of works Tinguely not only problematised the introduction of the robotic machine as interface in our society, but moreover investigated the role of the artist, as well as that of the art work and the viewer. Out of a fascination with this specific topic within Tinguely's work the initiative wishes to stimulate research into the ways in which contemporary artists deal with the relation between artist, viewer and art work. This project kicked off on 25-27 October, when the Initiative hosted an expert meeting in Amsterdam where 9 renowned scholars and artists g athered to discuss the topic, and to set parameters for further artistic and academic research.

The aim of this research is two-fold:
- to generate a high-profile collection of 'art producing objects',
- to support and stimulate awareness and knowledge on the subject through:
scientific research, exhibitions, and educational programmes on different levels.

Who are we?
The Métamatic Research Initiative is an initiative of the All Art Initiatives Foundation, based in Amsterdam. The foundation is a privately funded non-profit foundation set up to stimulate visual art through the funding of:
- artistic and academic research, - monographs on artists and other publications,
- projects that will increase exposure and make the media available to a wider audience,
- stimulate the incorporation of relevant works in public collections, both in the Netherlands and abroad.

4Culture seeks electronic artworks for e4c, a storefront gallery for electronic art

Visible by foot, bike, car or bus to more than 20,000 people each day, e4c exhibits selected artworks on rotation from 7 am - 10 am, seven days a week.

Up to sixteen media works or media proposals will be selected for presentation through this public, electronic gallery for a period of up to one year. Due to the transitory nature of the audience, works between 1-5 minutes are desired. Media artists working in all genres are encouraged to apply.

ABOUT
e4c is 4Culture's storefront gallery for electronic art. Four monitors, adjacent to Gallery4Culture, ( http://www.4culture.org/publicart/gallery/index.htm) display selected works on rotation.

e4c was launched in 2008 as a means to offer a highly visible, public venue for the exhibition of dynamic electronic artworks by media artists, as well as projects intrinsic to 4Culture's work to advance community through arts, heritage, preservation and public art throughout King County.

In its inaugural year, eleven artists and artist teams were selected to present new or adapted work. Artists submit selected work when it is complete and these are added to the display, which is accessible for a full year. Throughout the year, added content will include new artworks created or adapted for e4c as well as media pieces created by and about 4Culture.

Works are displayed in rotation during presentation hours (generally, 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM) each day. In conjunction with Gallery4Culture, e4c launches selected works for display during First Thursday Art Walk, Seattle's largest art walk.

e4c is located adjacent to Gallery4Culture facing Prefontaine Place South in Seattle's Pioneer Square neighborhood. This street-level, media gallery is visible by foot, bike, car or bus to more than 20,000 people each day. e4c consists of four, LCD monitors and two speakers mounted on the exterior of the building, broadcasting sound to passers-by.
