Full-time Faculty Position in Architecture

The School of the Art Institute of Chicago's Department of Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Designed Objects (AIADO) invites applications for a full-time, tenured or tenure-track faculty position in architecture beginning August 2013. Rank and salary are competitive with peer institutions, and are commensurate with quality of practice or scholarship, extent of teaching experience, and current professional standing.
The School of the Art Institute of Chicago seeks a distinguished architect and teacher with specialization in tectonics, theory, integrated systems, professional practice, sustainability, and design, to teach classes in its professional graduate program. Begun in 2006, and accredited by NAAB in 2011, the Master of Architecture has four different tracks, including a unique professional Master of Architecture with an Emphasis in Interior Architecture. The program is housed in a new state-of-the-art studio and fabrication space at the top of Louis Sullivan’s historic Carson Pirie Scott building in downtown Chicago.
Responsibilities
This visionary educator will contribute to the further development and continued accreditation of the progressive Master of Architecture program, and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in tectonics, theory, systems integration, professional practice, sustainability, and design. Successful candidates are expected to maintain highly visible public outreach, research and publication profiles, and also participate in departmental and school-wide committees and service.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a national or international reputation and visibility as a practitioner,educator, or both, and hold a professional architectural license. A substantial record of research and publication, evidence of excellence in teaching, and leadership and management experience are essential. Candidates should also have the ability to integrate theoretical, historical, economic, and social issues into the pedagogy of the studio programs in the department and in the School.
