We invite applications for our autumn residencies, for which four artists will be selected to be in-residence at Wysing Arts Centre for six weeks. During the residencies we will be taking the theme of The Future as a starting point for artistic research.

The over-arching theme of Wysing's 2014 programme is The Future; in which we are exploring the potential of the future through what we know of the past. To date two exhibitions have addressed these interests, Annals of the Twenty-Ninth Century and Hey, I’m Mr. Poetic; ideas which will be further explored in an upcoming retreat Of Our Own Making.
The four autumn residencies will build upon this research and on our forthcoming summer residency programme Futurecamp, for which ten artists will be in residence during a ten week period. They are Bonnie Camplin, David Raymond Conroy, Patrick Goddard, Daniel Keller, Rachel Maclean, Shana Moulton, Ahmet Öğüt, Rachel Reupke, James Richards and Tracey Rose.
During Futurecamp we will also host five seminars that will address pertinent issues regarding how we live now, bringing together speakers from different disciplines including anthropology, philosophy, psychology and economics, alongside artists. These are Psychology and Behaviour in the Digital Age; Private vs Public: Activism, Economics and Politics Today; The Way We Live Now: Environmental and Social Consequences; Alternative Methods: Art and Education and A Post Gender World
We invite artists to propose how they would spend six weeks in-residence at Wysing taking the theme of The Future as a starting point for research.
During the residencies, we will organise a series of talks and events to expand thinking around the theme and artists are also invited to propose papers, talks, or performances that might be included in this events programme, if appropriate.
Residency application process:
There is no form to fill in to apply for residencies. Instead we ask artists to provide the information listed below. We prefer emailed applications as a single PDF file (for this we recommend PDF Forge http://www.pdfforge.org/) and will only accept applications below 3mb in size. We are happy to receive MP3/4 files or CDs/DVDs instead of written applications.
Please provide:
• A statement on the theme and how you would aim to respond during a residency at Wysing under the theme The Future (max 500 words)
• A general statement on your work (max 500 words)
• A current CV
• A selection of 6 images or other relevant material (CDs, DVDs, etc)
Successful artists receive a fee and production budget of £4,000 for a residency. Onsite accomodation and a studio are also provided free to the artists.
